Welcome to my blog, new and old readers!
I want thank Leigh from Marvelous Kiddo for featuring Rue’s birth story as ‘birth story of the week.’ I’ve read her fabulous blog for over a year and been inspired many times by the beautiful pictures and words of mamma’s and their birth experiences. I feel blessed to have joined the ranks of women who have brought life into this world. Hopefully I can and have already inspired someone with my birth story.
For those of you who have been following HGBB for a while, you know I’ve been infrequent in my posts since the babe was born. Oops. It happens to all new-&- really-sleep-deprived-moms right? I seem to have about….an hour of free time a day, and it’s normally not at the same time! When the babe actually lays down for a ‘catnap’ my brain goes something like this:
“He’s sleeping………………………………
!? !?
Sigh.
What should I do?
Sleep?
Eat.
Pee?
Wash a load of dirty baby clothes?
Put away the clean dishes?
Load the dirty dishes that are piling up?
Dry the load that I washed two days ago, that’s been sitting in the washer and is probably musty by now??
Pluck my bushwacked Freida-esque eyebrows?
Brush my teeth today?
Put on ‘real clothes’?
Take out the dirty diaper trash that’s stinking to high heaven?
Blog?
Shower!!!
By the time I have figured out what to do, I’ve wasted 5 minutes of his naptime, and somewhere between the toilet flush and burning the grilled cheese sandwich, he stirs. I hear his little cry calling to me ‘come hold me mama!’…So I shove a piece of blackened bread in my mouth and I run to grab him. That’s love folks.
Well, what can I say about being a new mom? It’s beautiful, and exhausting. I’m so in love. My arms are getting stronger by the day because he loves to be held 24/7.
We don’t sleep much and we both have cried a LOT these first 4 weeks, but it’s getting better. I’ve heard that 6 weeks is a milestone for newborns, so my fingers are crossed. I hope to have more ‘me’ time in the coming future, for one, to blog. I’ve missed it, and I really love to stay connected to you all. Thanks for all the wonderful sweet comments! They are the butter on my bread!!
Stay tuned for a new series: Confessions of a New Mom.
All my love,
Yana

Hi Yana...I've never met you, but I think we have several mutual friends, and I had met your husband a couple times a few years ago in some Canada to Maine travels...I love marvelous kiddo as well, and saw your story there. I'm not always much of a commenter on blogs, and I write more for my family in Canada than anything, but I wanted to say hello rather than be a blog-stalker!! ;) ...I loved your story and how committed you were to going about things naturally, and have read back to see some of your pregnancy journey, as that is the journey I am currently on! :) Congratulations! Your little guy is precious!
Getting into the swing of things takes awhile, but it does happen. And, the cuteness is so worth it. I'm sure you make an incredible mommy!
Do you have a wrap to carry Rue in? Those were lifesavers for me when Levi was a little one.
Congrats on being featured on Marvelous Kiddo. I have your post earmarked to read, but just haven't had time yet.
Oh, I'm right there with you!!!!
You are doing great mama! In just a couple of months you two will really feel connected and you will have your own routine. It does get easier, so hang in there! Love the onesie! :)
I remember those feelings when he would sleep. Everyone tells you to sleep when the baby sleeps, but I thought of so many other things to do besides sleep. It's hard getting used to having so much of your day (and you) pulled into this little person. And yes, a wrap/sling/pouch does help. A family friend who was a midwife told me one day (when I was in tears) "there will be days when you don't shower, don't brush your teeth and wear the same dirty clothes for several days. Just focus on resting, eating and spending time with your baby. Get some fresh air and sunshine when you can. Ask others to get things you need". It was so simple, but the best advice I got. Such a beautiful boy! Take care!
Hang in there; you are doing great! Thanks for the pic of the little bean!
Hello Yana,
I am from Vancouver Canada...keep posting, you are an inspiring lady. I enjoy your blog a lot!~ Thinking of starting my own sometime perhaps!~ Take care and be gentle with yourself, big changes are hard even when they are beautiful.
With kind thoughts to you and your family,
Julia
:) Pella will be 6 weeks tomorrow and we are starting to really mesh..and i am used to her quirks, what she likes what she doesnt, what works, what doesnt work...she just completed a growth spurt in week 4 and talk about mind boggling! she was in a good routine and out of the blue woke up religiously every 2 hours demanding FOOD...not sleeping...very fussy! Week 5 she woke up with baby acne :( and tomorrow we will be on week 6 and shes sleeping 4 hour increments at night... so like 10pm -3am and 4am-8am I never thought it would happen....so hang in there!!!!! hes still so tiny! :)
Kate, I loved that line. I can relate! :)
THANK YOU everyone. So much encouraging information and well wishes. I'm over the moon.
