so.sad.

isn't that the most adorable/sad little face you've ever seen?
pooooor baby.
burned his palm and thumb on the radiator.
it was heartwrenching.
and let me just say it is not easy to keep a crawling baby from crawling, nor is it easy to keep wounds clean. it's also nearly impossible to keep a bandaid on a baby.

thankfully my neighbor is an EMT and he said it looks as though it's healing nicely.
but gosh, that doesn't comfort a mama much.

'Having too much fun to take pictures.'

That's what I realized when I looked through my small photo album from last week. Too much fun to remember photos. We drove and drove and drove [which was surprisingly fun] and made lots of pit stops at Ikea and Anthropologie and our friend Matt & Cassie's house. We drank lots of coffee, and sang silly rhyming songs to keep our little beeber entertained for 27 hours of travel in 4 days. YES FOLKS. 27 HOURS. After an overnighter in CT we eventually made it to Maine; [but not without a pit stop to the NH tax free liquor store] only to wake up and drive back down to NH for Thanksgiving day's festivities. We hugged the family, chatted it up, drank some drink, had inappropriate table talk, ate just enough to feel icky, and watched Rue shine as the star of the show. He was loving the attention.

It was a grand, lovely, simple, joyful day.

We returned home saturday [with another stop at the NH liquor store.....gotta stock up for the holidays!] just in time for our friend David and Johannah's wedding. Most of the photos that my husband took of me were while I was dancing after I had a few drinks. OH, so not flattering.

Hope you had a lovely holiday!!

holiday road trip

Tonight at 5:30 our little family will be hopping in a car and driving to New England for Thanksgiving! Road Trip!!!
A lot of my husbands' family hasn't met Mr. Baby yet, so we are excited to spend this holiday with them and have them meet the first grand baby of the family! [shhh...don't tell, but next year there will be a cousin to join Rue's crew...as there is a bebe baking in the oven right now...and no, I'm not pregnant ;) but someone in the family is!

Armed with organic puffs, a front facing car seat, a crinkly book and silly faces, this mama is prepared to entertain baby Rue for 20+ hours in 4 days. Wish us luck!

In case I don't get to post again before the holiday, I want to wish everyone a very very happy thanksgiving. I hope you get to share the special day with loved ones and delicious food.

quote of the day

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud

was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Anais Nin

T-day

T-Day.
Turkey day.
Thanksgiving.

Whatever your preference....
we all can agree it's a happy day of [over] feasting with family!

I love Thanksgiving.
But; I have a confession.
Two actually.

1. Almost always, I think turkey is boring and horribly dry.
2. I don't REALLLLLLY love pumpkin as much as one is supposed to. I do, LOVE the flavor.
But there is a weird texture thing. And something is just, MISSING?

Thankfully, I found a kindred spirit who feels the same way. The Pioneer Woman. I just stumbled upon her blog, and oh mah word, ya'll. All her food looks killer! She is sarcastic. [Food and Sarcasm = the girl is speaking my language!] And to make her an even more credible food blogger I will name drop and say she was recently featured on Bobby Flay's Thanksgiving Throw Down. So I don't know about you, but I think tis' wise to make the food of a woman that held her ground next to Bobby.

She shares my pumpkin pie sentiment. So I was excited to see she created a pumpkin creme pie that looks ahhh-mazing. Lets just hope I can convince my strict punkin' lovin' family to indulge in this little beauty! I told my skeptical husband about it, and he insisted that I try it out first, so it can be 'perfect' for Christmas. See? I told you. Strict Punkin' Lover!

Isn't that pie just beautiful!?
I can't wait to try it.

Recipe found here on Pioneer Woman.

Bon appétit!

7 foods even farmers won't eat

I am a bit of a granola. I might not look like one or smell like one, but I do pay attention to what I put in my body. I love to cook as much home grown, farm bought, fresh and natural foods as possible. I am always looking for little things I can do to improve mine, and my family's health.
Since I'm not made of money, I can't buy everything organic, but I do what I can.

I recently found an interesting article '7 foods even a farmer won't eat'. My interest was piqued and I checked it out. No surprise, microwave popcorn was on there. But canned tomatoes?
It's definitely worth reading!

Have you heard of the 'dirty dozen'? It's a list of foods that contain the most pesticides when non-organic.

12 Most Contaminated
  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Sweet Bell Peppers
  • Celery
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Pears
  • Grapes (Imported)
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Potatoes
12 Least Contaminated
  • Onions
  • Avocado
  • Sweet Corn (Frozen)
  • Pineapples
  • Mango
  • Asparagus
  • Sweet Peas (Frozen)
  • Kiwi Fruit
  • Bananas
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Papaya

Also, I heard that buying organic coffee is a must-do!
Found both lists here.

Hope this helps you to deicide what foods you should buy organic, and what you can afford!

Happy shopping!

fall family fotos

Recently, our talented friend Claire took family photos for us. She is a fantastic photographer and we had the pleasure of working with her for my maternity photos & Ruehl's 9 day old photos.

Rue Magazine

Lo and behold, there is an online fashion/home decor magazine called Rue. So cute!
[I am quite partial to all things Rue, after all]

The magazine just came out with it's premier issue, and from what I can tell, I like!

Enjoy.

9 months.

you are 9 months old muffin!
biggest month marker so far because you have lived as long on the outside as you did on the inside.
that makes pregnancy seem like an eternity!
you climb the entire flight of stairs in under 10 seconds.
this happens of course when I am fixing you a bottle, and forget to put the gate up.
suddenly you are at the top and my heart skips a beat.

you have graduated to a 'big boy' bath and you L.O.V.E. bath time.
splashing around, playing with your toys.

you are still sporting 2 bottom teeth, but we are rooting on your top four which seem to be come in together. ouchie.

you love to eat puffs, and it only took you a day to get your pincher fingers down pat.
you have great motor skills.

sometimes in the morning as you wait for me to come get you, I hear you singing.
other times you are really quiet and when I peek in your room to see what you're up to, I find you standing in the corner of the crib, holding the curtain back and peering out the window.

daddy and I think you are RAD.

mama

well, they certainly got the TRICK part down.

Happy Halloween? Not so much.

To start this blog right, I will preface it with the fact that *we sort-of live in the ghetto*

The first wave of kids that showed up were teen moms with their two year olds in strollers.
The second wave of were kids that scoffed when we only gave them two pieces of candy.
The third was a kid that opened my front door and took some candy. Granted, it was the neighbor boy, but stiiiill.....opening my door? IDON'TTHINKSO.
The last boy was a 14 year old, no costume, no candy bucket and he was on his cell phone. Just stuck his hand out.
The next morning I realized my giant pumpkin had been stolen, and smashed down the street.

Add the pumpkin to the list of things that have been stolen:
2 umbrellas
a Mum

For the love of all that is good and holy, what the hell is wrong with this neighborhood??

I am already dreaming of living in a safe suburban cookie cutter neighborhood, where my neighbors are polite and are THANKFUL for free candy and I can walk around with my boy and enjoy the holiday. For now, I just won't keep anything else on my porch.
